When broken institutional practices or entire systems get in the way of our ability to thrive, we work to transform them according to our vision.
We envision a community that is collectively designed, built, and owned by residents. The power of what we have created and are currently building speaks to this dream:
We launched non-profit housing corporations with a mission to protect existing affordable housing programs and innovate new ones.
We sustain a Weatherization Assistance Program to make housing energy efficient and train residents for jobs in the field.
We co-founded the University Neighborhood Housing Program to create, preserve, and improve affordable housing and bring needed community resources to the Bronx.
We negotiated a precedent-setting Community Benefits Agreement at the Kingsbridge Armory.
We facilitate youth restorative circles that foster conflict transformation in schools as an alternative to punitive practices that push students out.
We are designing a community land trust where residents collectively steward housing, green and commercial spaces, and more.
