When broken institutional practices or entire systems get in the way of our ability to thrive, we work to transform them according to our vision.

We envision a community that is collectively designed, built, and owned by residents. The power of what we have created and are currently building speaks to this dream:

  • We launched non-profit housing corporations with a mission to protect existing affordable housing programs and innovate new ones.

  • We sustain a Weatherization Assistance Program to make housing energy efficient and train residents for jobs in the field.

  • We co-founded the University Neighborhood Housing Program to create, preserve, and improve affordable housing and bring needed community resources to the Bronx.

  • We negotiated a precedent-setting Community Benefits Agreement at the Kingsbridge Armory.

  • We facilitate youth restorative circles that foster conflict transformation in schools as an alternative to punitive practices that push students out.

  • We are designing a community land trust where residents collectively steward housing, green and commercial spaces, and more.
