Positions Available: Community Organizer
The
NWBCCC is a people power organization that unites institutions and individuals
in the Northwest Bronx on campaigns for social, economic, environmental, and
racial justice. It is a membership
led-broad based organization that uses direct action community organizing to
address local housing, economic development, education, public safety, and
environmental issues and to fight for broader policy change in these and other
areas.
Responsibilities:
¯ Recruit and organize tenant
associations, local congregations, community-based organizations, schools etc
¯ Organize issue campaigns
that emerge from these institutions around housing, immigration, education,
community and economic development
¯ Transition leaders into the
core base of the NWBCCC to participate in the larger coalition.
¯ Strong focus on leadership
development to build capacity of neighborhood leaders and institutions.
¯ Provide leadership trainings
on organizing and political education and Know Your Rights Workshops.
¯ In conjunction with
Executive Directors & Development Coordinator - write reports to current
funders and assist with grant development to current & potential funders
¯ Must attend weekly staff
meetings, participate in a staff peer accountability team, and submit weekly
reflections
¯ Assist organization in
raising funds through special events and membership dues
Requirements:
¯ Minimum two years experience in organizing, activism, or related field.
¯ Spanish language skills
¯ Commitment to social justice
and understanding of community organizing approach to social change.
¯ Flexibility and strong
interest in working as part of a team with other staff and neighborhood
leadership.
¯ Work occasional weekends
